Tips on Auto A/C Maintenance

0

The climate control in your car serves you well; it warms you up in the winter and keeps you nice and cool in the hot weather and unlike the alternator or battery, a/c units do require some TLC. The a/c doesn’t get used in the winter and after a period of inactivity, it is important to take a look at the gas levels and make sure the compressor is in good working order.

  • Weekly Test – Turn on the a/c and leave it running for 15 minutes, which ensure the compressor gets a workout. Set the fan speed on highest and the lowest temperature and the a/c system will get a nice workout and should you notice the system is underperforming, take the car to an a/c specialist, who can pinpoint the issue and carry out a full service.
  • Run Defrost – When doing the weekly test, run defrost for 10-15 minutes, which will clear all the ducts and channels. This ensure there is no mildew inside the ducting, which can lead to unpleasant odours, something to avoid.
  • Gas Recharge – This is recommended every couple of years and can be done at the firm that does car air conditioning replacement in Bexhill-on-Sea, where you can book your car in. The mechanic attaches a gauge and then tops up the system to the required level and you’re good to go for another few years.

When looking to book your car in for a service, make sure the garage also does A/C servicing and kill two birds with one stone.
